Learning literacy through the Church.
Growing up in church can have its advantages. I remember as a kid, my parents would take me to church and I helped them with the singing. This helped me use my ear for music and also, it helped me read music and words. When people grow up in church, their literacy understanding can start at an earlier age. How did the church help develop and understand literacy? By interviewing four people who I know grew up in church, this will help us understand how going to church as a child helped develop an understanding for literacy? For my interviews, I ask about a short background first. Lauren Otto grew up in Minnesota, Twin Cities. She's always been involved in church since she practically grew up in the church. Her entire life, her dad has been a pastor, first a youth pastor in Minnesota, then an Outreach and Evangelism pastor in Beloit, WI. So she's always participated in Sunday school, church on the weekends, and eventually youth group. Liliana Rienzi grew up in El Tocuyo, Venezuela. Since she was very little she's been involved in music writing, poetry, singing, acting. Then she started dedicating herself as she got older, to educate others. Now, as a pastor, she leads and teaches others in church. She work in church, and is married to the pastor. Her faith has definitely become the focus of her life. Ramon Gimenez grew up in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Since he was little he develop a passion for singing and playing guitar. He used to sing salsa and other kinds of Latin music, but then he became a Christian and started singing for the church. He then became a pastor at the age of 17 and since then he's been ministering all around the globe. How did growing up in the church help with understanding or interpreting reading? "Learning from things like Bible Study, Sunday school, and just church in general has greatly improved my interpretation skills, not only when reading the Bible, but just literature in general.
