The rush of urbanization throughout the world overlooked the negative aspects forced on the environment and its sensitive nature. Developed countries are making astounding efforts to restore wetlands, national parks, and the precious land left. Restoration efforts across the United States and Europe are trying to replenish the land and increase the species diversity and success which has a chain reaction of improving our environment as a whole. .
There are many challenges facing the restoration of salt marshes and coastal wetlands in southern California. The lack of diversity of species makes the process even slower which forces restoration workers to rely on planting and focusing on exotic species that are not native to the area to bring species richness to the water banks. Increasing wetland area will bring about the natural species it needs to allow our coastal wetlands to flourish. With creating a rich diversity of species, the restoration process would increase rapidly. Not only is coastal wetland restoration important for the environment but also for the rapidly increasing coastal population as they creates storm protection, shore stability and pollution reservoirs. ______________________________________________________________________________.

Globally, the urban population is expected to rise 1.84% from 2015 to 2020 (Joyal 2010). Although that percentage doesn't sound like an issue, that is nearly 80,000,000 people most of which live in urban and developed areas. With that, detrimental impacts on coastal wetlands and development will arise unless ecologists and restoration efforts are able to slow the damage. Scientists and environmentalists are trying to keep the urbanization in coastal regions at bay but big developers have a strong hold in communities and even in the government, allowing them to bypass some laws and find loopholes that allow them to develop on these sensitive lands.
