Renewable Energy and Fossil Fuels

But the electricity created can only feed to that specific region. It is difficult to create transmission lines to move electricity on a large scale to population centers. Wind farm is an area of land that has a group of wind turbines generating electricity to one or more electrical grids. (U.S. Department of Energy, 2013) .
Now wind farm looks like a great idea to generate cheap electricity; however, it is not at all the case. Wind energy is great but wind farms cannot be built in all the places. To generate electricity, winds velocity has to be at least 13 miles per hour. Thus, wind farms have to be built in areas such as hills or valleys were wind velocity is fast enough and continually. Also, large wind farms are a visual blight, and rotating blades can be noisy and endanger bats and migratory birds." Although wind is not always a reliable energy source, it is the world's fastest-growing energy source. (Wind Energy, 2013).
The other faster growing renewable energy is solar energy. The solar energy work in something called solar panels. Solar panels are devices that convert light into electricity. A solar panel is a collection of solar cells. How it works is that the sun transmits energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. When this radiation is absorbed by the solar cells, it causes rapid electron movement. In the movement, electrons are forced to move in one direction, creating direct current (DC). Then it flows into an inverter which converts the DC into alternating current (AC) producing electricity. The more light that hits a solar cell, the more electricity it is produced. The economic benefits are that sunlight is free, abundant, and dependable. No CO 2 emissions are produced. (Northwestern University, 2013) Solar panels can be set in any place. Some people set them on the roof of their houses, others on free landscapes and others in parking lots. Yes, parking lots can be used as solar energy power plants.
