Background.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines suicide as the act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind. Suicide even dates back to the Bible, "Be not over much wicked, neither be you foolish: why should you die before your time? "(Ecclesiastes 7:17). Time can be a major factor of suicide. The longer something bothers that person, the longer it stays on their mind and begins to take over their life. It may start off as simple irritation or state of uneasiness, but over time with the lack of help needed, they can feel defeated by what could be seen as something little to others. .
Common Reasons.
In all age groups, men commit suicide successfully more than women. However, females are more likely to attempt suicide than males do. Together, white males and white females accounted for over 90% of all suicides. In teenagers, the average ratio is 5.5:1 (O'Brien). The ratio increases with age within this group. Males account for 79% of all suicides in the US, although females often tend to attempt suicide 2 to 3 times more often than males (Cacioppo 708).
