BRIEF CASE SUMMARY .
In the evening of May, 27 2014, two girls aged 14 and 15 years respectively from Katra village of Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh, who were cousins had gone to the field so as to relieve themselves however they did not return back home. When the parents realized that the girls were not back the father immediately went to the police station so as to lodge a complaint. He asked the police for their assistance to search the girls however the inspectors mocked at him and asked him to come the next day morning. The next morning the villagers who searched the girls found their bodies hanging from a tree. The post – mortem revealed that the girls had been gang raped and then strangulated to death. The family has lodged a complaint against the police constables who was one duty and refused to take any action. .
As of now 5 people have been arrested in the case, this includes the two police constables. The men have been accused for allegedly raping the young girls. However the Forensic tests which were conducted in Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in the city of Hyderabad are indicating that the two girls were not really sexually abused. Same conclusions have been given by the medical board, saying it is very less likely that the girls would have been raped. Media has accused the police of saying so in an attempt to ward of the responsibility of the rape case from their shoulders. The DGP of Uttar Pradesh also revealed that out the 2 victims, one of them was the only child of their parents. While her father had 3 brothers thus indicting that there are limited resources and hence her death could benefit others.
