Every person has the potential to be a creative individual as humans are considered to have imaginative ideas and to have the capability of acting on them. As George Bernard Shaw (n.d.) has stated, "Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last you create what you will." People's imaginations are often stimulated by as almost as anything around them and many people, by combining their imagination and creativity together, succeeds in different fields. As humans' imagination have been advancing, humans have created their own world of mind that is very different from reality, such as living in a magical world where humans can fly on brooms and go on an adventurous quests accompanied with mystical creatures. This shows how unlimited people's imagination can be and some of them are willing to share the world they have created by writing them into stories. Rick Riordan, who had trouble in reading, has become one of the best-selling authors and created several series of books that both adults and children love very much. This essay will examine what stimulated Rick Riordan's interest in writing and reading, his ability to inspire people and his impact on his readers with reading disabilities and what he would like to pass on as his legacy.
Young Richard Russell Riordan, better known as Rick Riordan, was raised in a family of educators. However, the young boy had absolutely no interest in reading and writing. According to Adlit.org (2014), Rick Riordan admitted that he did not like books before he reached the age of 11 or 12 years old. Thus, he could understand how it felt and relate himself to all those children who are reluctant readers. His supportive teachers opened up the doorway into the interest of reading to him, especially his eighth grade English teacher, who tried to recommend him some interesting books that he would find enjoyable.
