Socioeconomic Factors and Obesity

, 2011; Larson et al., 2009; Simon et al., 2008). These establishments serve high caloric, nutrient poor foods for a very low price, also known as "The Dollar Menu".
Another group of opinions I found was the factor of education achieved in regards to obesity. (CDC, Mancino, National Center for Health Statistics, Colorado Health Report Card). People with higher levels of education and higher income have lower rates of many chronic diseases compared to those with less education and less income levels, according to a study done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. From 2007-2010, women ranging from 25 and above with less than a bachelor's degree were more likely to be obese (39%-43%) than those with a bachelor's degree or higher (25%). (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Formal education may motivate an individual to make greater investments in his or her own health. Men and women with a college education watch less television, eat a higher quality diet, drink fewer soft drinks, and eat breakfast more often (Lisa Mancino). The frequency of obesity is lower among college educated adults than among high school graduates, for each age group the largest gap is between those with a bachelor's degree and those with some college or an associate's degree. Among 35-44 year olds, 23% of four-year college graduates and 37% of high school graduates were obese in 2008. Among those 65 or older, 24% of four-year college graduates and 28% of high school graduates were obese (National Center for Health Statistics). The Robert Johnson Foundation's report, Overcoming Obstacles to Health, says that Americans who are poor and those who have not completed high school experience considerably worse health on average than educated people (Colorado Health Report Card).
Another outlook on obesity that I found was the age of the subject (AHA, US Congress, Data Resource Center, White House Task Force).
