Compliance starts with understanding, and understanding starts with cultural competence. In this study, we focused on compliant behavior portrayed by strangers in a social environment, where consumer goods wereare available for purchase. Our purpose was to determine the level of compliance of a stranger when confronted with multiple variables and test which had the most effect if any. It was hypothesized that (a). Differences in compliance should exist due to the target's gender and whether an individual or pair made the request,. (b). Whether an individual or pair approached the target and the type of attire worn, should influence the level of compliance, and. (c). Level of compliance should be affected by type of attire and the target's gender. In this experimental design, there were 1408 participants (75 Male, 65 Female), of who were all different in ages, cultural backgrounds, gender, and race. A Data Coding sheet was used in order to record the rater's observations. The resulting data provides us with an understanding as to whether compliant behavior can be associated with certain triggers and if the triggers affect all age groups.s showed that whether the experimenter had an accomplice or alone and the attire worn were statistically significant. Participants were more likely to be compliant to an individual rather than a pair and also showed more compliancy to experimenters in casual attire as oppose to formal. However no significant interactive affect was found between any variable that was analyzed. .
Introduction.
Compliance is a behavior that is characterized differently depending on how a person defines it. Compliance, according to the dictionary, is defined as the act or process of complying to a desire, demand, proposal, or regime or coercion. This type of behavior is sometimes seen as weak or subordinate, because it can be compared to the animal kingdom where males compete for an alpha status.
