"We the human species are confronting a placatory emergency- a threat to survival of our civilization that is gathering ominous and destructive potential. . . The earth has a fever. And the fever is rising. . . Indeed without realizing it, we have begun to wage war on earth itself. . . "-Al Gore, Nobel Prize acceptance speech, 2007. ("| Climatism." Climatism. N.p., n.d. For the past few years, there has been an active debate whether there is such a thing as Global Warming. Many people have argued that our earth is gradually getting hotter while others have said that it is just a coincidence. Many unusual things have occurred in the past few decades and centuries. All of these actions pointing to one cause, Global Warming. On Earth, Global Warming is happening at a rapid pace. Many factors such as accelerating sea levels, a number of large wildfires, and dangerous heat waves which are becoming far more common. This is not just happening in one part of the Earth, in fact it is having great effects in places such as North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Examples of Global Warming in North America include increased frequency, intensity and duration of heat waves in cities that experience them. Places such as Latin America are experiencing changes in water availability for human consumption. While Europe has been experiencing increased risk of inland flash floods as an effect of Global Warming. Scientist believe that greenhouse gases which emit carbon dioxide are one of the main cause of Global Warming. Another gas that is a large contributor to Global Warming is methane which is released from landfills and agriculture. Although Global Warming is happening rapidly there are precautions and efforts that we humans can take to try to protect ourselves and avoid the progression of Global Warming.
