The History of Anklets


Anklets were tremendously fashionable in ancient Egypt. They used to incorporate the symbols into their ornament because they believed it would bring good fortune to them. Cleopatra was a famous anklet wearer during the ancient times in Egypt. .
             Central Europe.
             In central Europe, anklet didn't have much of any significance but the accessory has been found in along the area of The Danube, in the Alpine foreland till the Rhine to the Atlantic and also present Alsace. The Bronze Age Anklet was used only on special occasions. This anklet is hand-hammered with an embossed geometric design. It is finished wit a spiral design by coiling a bronze wire around. .

Indian anklets usually are made out of silver, bronze and gold rarely. In India, men, women and children all wore anklets. And also the kings often rewarded anklets to nobles, landlords and local officials as a precious gift. .

             In Rogue River Valley, Native Americans were said to wear anklets. They were made of hogs' teeth to hinder rattlesnakes while hunting or gathering. Tribes in South America also wore anklet embellished with charms that would jangle in order to hinder the presences of insects and snakes. .
             Coming to America.
             During 1950, anklets were introduced in America finally by becoming an enormously popular piece of fashion jewelry. During 20th century it was supposed that only prostitutes wore them. Because of this old tales many people were discouraged for wearing them. But by 1970's, anklets were well known of fashion. Later, handcrafted Indian style anklets make their way into fashion jewelry in America made out of gold and silver.
