My thoughts and attitude towards the planned U.S expansion of military personnel and families on Guam is more of a negative feeling. My heart strongly appeals against the military coming out here to Guam. Maybe it is the fact that they will bring up our tourist industry, that more money will flow through our government, that maybe they could help us with unmentioned and forgotten issues. Then again the consequences sink into my mind like quicksand. Questions in my head still linger long after the public forum. The concerns for the people of Guam are big. Like where the military will be housed at, I dare say we have limited space and land here on Guam. Overcrowding is such a big factor. Then the fact that jobs will no longer be available to people who have lived here their entire lives. The job industry will cease to exist for both incoming military folk and the people of Guam.
I just think that it is so wrong to "dump " the military here. We had no say in anything at all, towards this rather big decision, and that absolutely disgusts me. Why are we the ones who have to accommodate those military people. Why can not they be divided up and split apart into other locations. America does not care about us, they just use us. We are vital to the U.S. If anything, they need us more than we need them, in some cases. This whole thing seems so unfair and wrong to not only me but the rest of the people living in Guam. The people who have established themselves here, that have made a career here, that have families on different parts of the island, are in no doubt worried about their future but their safety. Who knows if these Americans are racial and sexist towards us all. We do not know how everything will. I predict more violence, more hate upon one another, more struggle to survive in this already challenging island.
I admit that our government is not as strong or as powerful as it should be, having that as a well known fact, why do they push this upon us.
