Observation On Cognitive Development

In this report I will be discussing my observations on Piaget's Periods of Cognitive Development. Piaget's Periods of Cognitive Development consist of four periods: the sensorimotor period (birth to 2 years), the pre-operational period (2-6 years), the concrete operational period (6-11 years), and the formal operational period (12-adulthood). In this report I will be discussing my observations on my youngest sister relating them to Piaget's four periods. I babysit my youngest sister a lot, so I first hand experienced her growing up and how she is developing. At first when I would hide her rattle behind my back she would cry because evidently she thought that the rattle was gone but when she got about a year or so and I would shake the rattle with her then hide it behind my back she became aware of the rattle not being gone but just being behind my back. This describes Piaget's Sensorimotor Period, which is when the infant is learning that objects still exist when it is out of sight. Later on down the line, at about age three or four when she started playing with her dolls I remembering having to turn my closet into a "Dolly Hospital" because whenever she dropped one of her dolls or she would say that now they're crying and have a "booboo" and would whine to me about taking them to the emergency room. Since I obviously couldn't take dolls to a real hospital I made a space in my closet for her to take them when she felt that they were hurt. This stage relates to the Pre-operational Period where in these cases she believes that everything has a consciousness .
By the time she became about seven she was more so out of that stage, so for the most part my closet was back MINES! But relating to Piaget's Concrete Operational period she would think that if I gave myself a handful of chips in a bigger size bowl and gave her the exact same hand size of chips in a smaller bowl that I had more than her.
