Death: Romeo and Juliet and The Story of the Stone

It illustrates that parents can decide their kids' marriages in the play. "Jia Baoyu, you need to get married with Xue Baochai, because she is an enthusiastic and clever girl. "(Cao, Pg. 842) Grandmother Jia tells Baoyu to marry Baochai, because she will decide who Baoyu should get married with. Lin Daiyu's tragic death is caused by Grandmother Jia's decision. Furthermore, the novel and the play are similar to each other, because these two couples all didn't choose to love moderately. Excessive love between couples can be harmful to their love. It can lead to impulsive actions, because people always think less comprehensively when they are crazy in love with someone. "Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast. " (Shakespeare, Act 2, Scene 3, Line 94) Friar Laurence warn Romeo not to take impetuous actions, because he is mature and knowledgeable and he knows that impetuous actions are always wrong. Romeo doesn't listen to Friar's advice, and he dies because he "runs " too fast. In the novel, Jia Baoyu says, "If there is a huge water vat, I will only have a drink! " (Cao, Pg. 1471) Jia Baoyu says it to Lin Daiyu. This sentence indicates that if there are countless beautiful girls in the world, Baoyu will only love Daiyu. Baoyu loves Daiyu too much that he will die for her. In addition, there are some differences between the influences of their deaths. In the play, Capulet and Montague realize what hatred between two families have done to them after Romeo and Juliet are dead, and they become friends at the end of the play. In the novel, Grandmother Jia doesn't notice what her decision on Jia Baoyu's marriage has done to Lin Daiyu. Daiyu's death doesn't change Grandmother Jia's mind. To summarize, family pressure and extreme love are bad for spouses, and they can lead to death.
Secondly, characters in the play and the novel are dead because of misapprehensions and impetuous decisions. Both a status young man named Paris in the play and a servant named Qingwen in the novel are killed by misunderstanding and their wrong decisions.
