Thirteen weeks, a beating heart, the curves and grooves of a finger print, and an ounce of matter is slowly developing into a human being. There is a girl, only eighteen, hardly a mother. Just trying to graduate is hard enough without all the stares and snide remarks. No partner to help her through the ups and downs of parenthood, but she can do it. Her doctor suggested abortion. Why not? It would certainly make things easier. She refuses to give up and take the easy way out. This is not a game, it is a human beings life. She is not a murder. Abortion is murder.
Many people would argue that abortion is not murder for a number of reasons. It is commonly said that the embryo is still attached to the mother, therefore raising the argument that the embryo is not its own living organism, making it morally okay to terminate. Most abortions take place in the first trimester. In the first trimester, gender is unknown. With no gender, the embryo is unsympathetically referred to as it, making it easier to rationalize killing it. The use of birth control is another controversial topic. Pro-choice supporters believe that the pro-life supporters argument of abortion is invalid as long as birth control is still legal. They say that birth control and abortion are significantly similar considering they both terminate what could or could not be considered a living organism. Another commonly brought up argument would be that of body rights. It is said that women should have the choice to abort because they should be able to decide what they do with their own body. If a woman want to abort, she should have the right to make her own choice. In some cases, such as rape, it is somewhat understandable to not want the constant reminder of a tragedy. Rape victims want nothing more than to get past and forget about what happened, and the constant reminder of a child can be detrimental to recovery. For all of these reasons, pro-choice supporters would say there is nothing wrong with abortion.
