Magna Carta

" From the beginning, the English colonies had democratic characteristics such as majority rule, representative government, and freedom of religion." These ideas are shown in the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, Petition of Right, Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, Massachusetts School Law, Bloody Tenet of Persecution, Rhode Island Colonial Charter, Habeas Corpus Act, English Bill of Rights, and the Pennsylvania Charter of Privileges.
The Magna Charta, or the Magna Carta, is the document that King John of England was forced by the English barons to sign in 1215, guaranteeing certain rights to them. The ideas that came from this charter that helped make democracy are the convictions that all men are created equal, no one is proved guilty without a trial, citizens can leave the land and come back later, and that all men have freedom of rights, liberties, and concessions.
The Mayflower Compact was the government charter used by the pilgrims. The ideas that helped develop democracy were those of equality and rights to everyone.
The Petition of Right was made to withhold tax without the consent of the Parliament. The beliefs that came from this document are that of no one is punished without a trial and that taxes can be made to support the government.
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut were issued to maintain peace and orderly conduct in government. This is where the ideas of election are derived.
Massachusetts School Law was fulfilled to ensure that all children are required to learn to read and write. This outlook is what all children are given in a democracy.
The Bloody Tenet was arranged to stress the point that God requires not a uniformity of religion and the power lies in the people. The idea to respect ones religion even if you are against it comes from this tenet.
The Rhode Island Colonial Charter was written to stress the subject of religious opinions. This idea is also in democracy.
