The Vietnam War and America's Call to War

THE VIET NAM WAR REPRESENTED THE POWER OF AN AMERICAN PRESIDENT TO WAGE WAR WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF CONGRESS?.
I agree that the Viet Nam War represented the power of an American president to wage war without the consent of congress. Below I have noted support for my answer.
The United States never declared war on North Vietnam. Instead the "war " was often referred to as a conflict. Congress gave President Lyndon Johnson power to conduct military operations without declaring war and to launch a full-scale war if the president deemed it necessary. President Johnson used these powers to escalate the war and increase dramatically the size of the American forces and troops in Viet Nam. .
Much of the support for the war was the result of misinformation and skewed results of battles and strategies perpetrated by the administration and the military leaders. Consequently, the amount of US service members killed in the war reached 58,220.
A major motivation for US Presidents during the Viet Nam intervention was to stop the spread of communism, also called the containment strategy. President Kennedy said in his inauguration speech of 1961; " pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and success of liberty ". .
Kennedy inherited the Cold War policy from President's Truman and Eisenhower and was determined to stop the spread of communism. Viet Nam was seen by Kennedy as a place to stop the spread of communism. He decided to draw a line in the sand. Johnson was the Vice President at the time. Johnson bought into the containment strategy and early on he made an unfortunate assessment of the situation in South Viet Nam by stating after a visit to the country that Ngo Dinh Diem, the leader of South Viet Nam, who the US supported, was the "Winston Churchill of Asia ". Diem went on to be a failure as a leader and was eventually overthrown and killed in a coup supported by the US government.
