Hypothesis: Termites prefer the scent of Papermate pens over the scent of BIC pens.
Materials and Methods.
On a piece of blank printing paper one black Papermate pen was used to draw a long line on the long side of the paper near the edge. Across from the line near the other edge another line was drawn with a black BIC pen the same length and direction. For trial 1 each termite was placed in the middle of the printing paper and given two minutes to move around freely. Three stopwatches were used during this experiment. One stopwatch was used to record the two minutes. The other two stopwatches were used to record the time that the termites followed each line. When a termite left a line the time was stopped. One was for the black BIC pen line, and the other was for the black Papermate pen line. After the first trial was done, a new blank sheet of printing paper was used and two new lines were drawn, the same as before, only this time the two lines were only an inch apart from each other. For trial two, the termites were each given separate turns and two minutes just like before.
