Have you ever thought and wondered just how many different types of dating sites there are? Imagine the types of commercials that are used to manipulate the minds of people to think they need these services to find a soul mate. These sites make you think that if you sign up and pay their fees they will find you the perfect person to spend the rest of your life with. It gives people the misconception that if they aren't dating, they aren't with the norms. If you don't have time to go out and find someone, they will find someone for you. As George Loewenstein informs us, "Most of the brain is dominated by automatic processes, rather than deliberate thinking. A lot of what happens in the brain is emotional, not cognitive" (qted in Lindstrom 28). .
The biggest dating site out there is eHarmony.com. They have a fact on the first page of their tour that says "eHarmony is responsible for the happiest relationships" (eHarmony.com) Who really determines where the happiest relationships came from? The first steps into getting suckered into this site is to fill out a questionnaire. Eharmony says this is "the first step into finding love". Next step is your personality profile is made and they are able to match you with someone who would be compatible with you. These "Key Dimensions" are crucial for a successful relationship. According to eHarmony's records, 600,000 of their couples have tied the knot and counting. An average of 438 people get married everyday through Eharmony. (I wonder how many of those marriages have resulted in divorce?) They don't bother to tell you those statistics.) .
The owner of eHarmony is Dr. Neil Clark Warren. He practiced as a clinical psychologist and counseled thousands of married couples before starting the site. Some things I weren't aware of is there are different eHarmony dating groups. They have Asian dating, black dating, Christian dating, senior dating, Jewish dating, Hispanic dating, and local dating.
