Evil in Lord of the Flies

" 'He must have flown off after he dropped us. He couldn't land here. Not in a plane with wheels.' 'We was attacked'" (8). Normally, no little boy's first explanation to why their plane crashed would include being attacked by a grown man. A grown man "attacking" little boys is a sick act. But that is all the boys know. They hear about the war, and they see the war. For the boys, innocent people being attacked is just normal. But to a person that did not grow up during a war, they would not understand at all. The second piece of evidence is Ralph telling how everyone will be ok, he is sure that his daddy will rescue them. "' He's a commander in the Navy. When he gets leave he'll come and rescue us.'" (13). Ralph just assumes that because there are so many grownups flying around fighting a war that his daddy will figure it out and come and rescue all of them. They do not think of the flip side, which is someone from the other side does not realize who they are and attacks them like they first assumed had happened. It just normal for them to think of war as an ok thing. This shows exactly what Zimbardo said, "if the system is diseased the person will become corrupted." The boys are now corrupted, by accepting war as normal, and it is just a way of life to kill for something that might not be moral. .
In Lord of the Flies, the boys were quickly placed in an unfamiliar situation, which would be the crash landing on the island. After the boys all find one another toward the beginning of the story, they start to discuss how to handle jobs and power. "The small boy held out his hands for the conch and the assembly shouted with laughter: at once he snatched back his hands and started to cry. 'Let him have the conch!' shouted Piggy. 'Let him have it!'" (35). Here, one of the small boys is asking Jack for the conch, because he has an idea to share, but because he is so little the group laughs.
