She states that these shows do give a good message about teen pregnancy but that message easily is forgotten about or lost when the girls are plastered everywhere right along with celebrities. Susie Kroll talks about herself watching the show and that if she were a young girl she would never want to get pregnant after watching the girls and how their lives are; but the girls are also turned into celebrities they have agents, photo shoots, big glamorous weddings. "So, the ugly, if I was a teen and I was seeing this, unexpectedly, teen pregnancy looks pretty glamorous." says Kroll. Teen pregnancy has been viewed differently throughout the years and this is one way it is viewed now.
The media does give the message of preventing teen pregnancy but it is often lost. Another television show that brought up the matter of teenage pregnancy was The Secret Life of The American Teenager, shown on ABC Family. It was about a young girl who goes to band camp and comes home to discover that she is pregnant, they show her life and how she deals with things and also her family and friends lives. While the show did portray the struggles of teenage pregnancy, taking a baby to day care, finding time for school work and working to support the baby it also glamorized it in a way. It all seemed too good to be true sometimes, things would work out perfect and sitting and watching the show it would look really good and happy, but in reality it would not be how things would really be. During commercials and after every episode there would be a message saying that teenage pregnancy is preventable, websites to visit, and how to even talk to your parents about sex; this gave a clear message but could easily be ignored when being hyped about what was happening in the show and what was going to happen next. When it was said that MTV would air 16 & Pregnant in 2009 the article "MTV Reaches Out to Teens to Prevent Teen Pregnancy" said that the show was going to be the real life The Secret Life of The American Teenager.
