The Iranian Revolution of 1979

The UK and US would send supplies to the Soviets through Iran. To justify their invasion, the allies would guide a new Shah, one that was open with the West, Muhammad Rez Pahlavi who was only 23 at the time he took office. The allies signed a treaty with the new Shah agreeing on the removal of foreign soldiers within six months of the war ending. This was a significant treaty because it would shape relations with the Shah and the West. With the Allies pulling the strings, Iran declared war on Germany on September 9, 1943. The war had negative repercussion on the Iranian people. Because everything was being rationed, it created a famine. Protests in the capital city of Tehran broke out and resulted in death, destruction, and chaos. After the war with Germany, there began a gap between the rich and the poor. .
In 1941, Iranian political parties were allowed to participate, inferring that the country would soon be democratic, making it evident that the UK and US had their say in what was happening. In 1949, the National Front Party was formed by Mohammed Mossadeq. In 1951, the Shah appointed Mossadeq to be prime minster of Iran. As prime minster, Mossadeq nationalized the oil industry, bringing back revenue back to the people and upsetting western powers. He became a nationalist leader, even becoming Time Magazine's Man of the Year, which made him even more of a threat to the west. In an effort to stop him, the UK and US assigned the MI-6 and CIA to knock down Mossadeq from power, eventually being successful.
In the beginning of 1963, the Shah implemented a total program knows as the White Revolution. With this reform, the Shah looked to achieve goals such as nationalization of forests, land reform, the formation of the Literacy Corps to decrease illiteracy. The Shah also gave women the right to vote, and improved women's' legal rights. On the Economic side, the Shah sold state owned enterprises to the private sector.
