Ebola Article Summary

Many people, such as me, don't take in to consideration that diseases are serious things. The news of an outbreak of Ebola in Africa may not be a shock to many Americans. However, in "Ebola Fever: Reconciling Ebola Risk in U.S. Hospitals " it clearly states in the title that hospitals here in the U.S. are even targets for the uprising disease. As of August 2014, it was recorded that the outbreak had infected 2127 people and of those people 1145 died. Many countries are preparing the possibility of an outbreak of Ebola from people that may be seeking care of the virus or undifferentiated feverish illnesses. .
Today the United States is considered one of those countries, taking steps to treat those suspected or confirmed of Ebola. Hospitals are specifically focusing on to protect health care staffs and prevent the spreading within health care facilities. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that any patient that may have or is confirmed with Ebola is placed in a single- patient room and introduced to contact and droplet precautions. Fluid- impermeable gowns, gloves, a surgical mask, and either goggles or face shield are essentials for health care professionals. Shoe and leg coverings are suggested for patients with "profuse " secretions. A N95 mask and negative pressure rooms are highly suggested for those with copious secretions. However to be more cautious many hospitals are treating all patients as if they are secreting abundantly to prevent the transmitting of Ebola. .
The CDC reasons for the recommendations are valid by evidence from the past 40 years. 20 outbreaks have been documented and through the records public health agencies and researchers have gained a substantial experience to control and prevent the disease. Ebola is the transmission of bodily fluids from direct contact, blood is the most common. Some other ways it's transmitted is contact with fruit bats or eating fruits that have come in contact with fruit bats, but its not relevant to U.
