Betrayal in Kite Runner and The Crucible

She makes me drink blood" (Miller 40). This simple lie, forces Tituba to mention the names of innocent people, accusing them of being witches. It is because of this one lie that the town falls into hysteria, causing enmity between the individuals. In comparison to Abigail's reign of terror through her lies in The Crucible, one might consider Amir's false impression in order to deceive his father. Amir is seen betraying his friend, Hassan, by falsely accusing him for something he does not commit. Amir wants Hassan gone from his life and to accomplish this, he takes some of the gifts he receives for his birthday and hides them in such a way that makes it look like Hassan stole them: "I went downstairs, crossed the yard, and entered Ali and Hassan's living quarters by the loquat tree, I lifted Hassan's mattress and planted my new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it.I waited another thirty minutes. Then I knocked on Baba's door and told what I hope would be the last long line of shameless lies" (Hosseini 110). Amir falsely accuses Hassan of stealing his gifts causing the build up of uneasiness in their relationship. Although Baba, Amir's dad, forgives Hassan of the deed, Amir's plan ends up working as Hassan and Ali pack out of the house. In short, Amir's lie results in the separation of the two friends. Amir and Abigail betray other characters by falsely accusing them of a deed resulting in lack of trust and enmity in the novels. Furthermore, it is also seen how Abigail and Amir end up betraying more people through their actions.
In addition, apart from lies, betrayal can be seen expressed through the actions of the characters. Abigail and Amir's actions speak clearly louder than words. Additionally, they cause many conflicts in each novel that harm their close friends. We see how Abigail causes a huge conflict in the novel through her act of betraying her close friend, Mary Warren.
