The Bonds of Father and Son

He states, "Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay to win Baba" [Hosseini, 82]. After winning the Kite Tournament, Amir forms a small bond with his father. Amir is aware of the fact that if he had told Baba what happened in the alley, it would have destroyed their small relationship. Favouring a child over another is common between people and the results of those indifferences leads to the jealousy against other children. Therefore the necessity of having a special fatherly figure in a child's life is imperative in order to raise proper children. .
In contrast, the relationship between Hassan and Sohrab is like the difference between night and day. They are the complete opposite of Amir and Baba. Their relationship is meaningful and sweet. They are both delighted by each other, Hassan taught Sohrab the art of the slingshot and he mastered it by the age of 10. He also teaches him how to read and write, Hassan wasn't going to let Sohrab grow up illiterate like he did. In a nutshell Hassan and Sohrab's relationship is what Amir longed for in the relationship with his father. "Hassan would take Sohrab to the Zoo to see Morgan the Lion or the cinema Hassan also taught him how to read and write, his son was not going to grow up illiterate like he was In winter he took Sohrab Kite Running" [Hosseini, 224]. Amir reflects on the amount of love between Sohrab and Hassan and he wishes he could have had that with Baba when he was that young. This confirms the importance of understanding and attentive father a child needs. Since the affection between Baba and Amir was absent which resulted Amir acquiring the love ungenuinely while as Hassan and Sohrab built that relationship together since the beginning. Their relationship is another reason why children need an empathetic fatherly figure in their lives, they focussed on the flaws that Baba and Amir's relationship had.
