Gravity – So Much More than Science Fiction

The tension and fear in Dr. Stone is neatly shown afterwards by taking close-up shots of her and also through a point of view(POV) camera angle which puts the audience in the character's shoes and allows them to get a first-hand experience of the situation. The main reason why this vivid interpretation of space is required is because it helps us connect with the character of Dr. Stone. Unlike the traditional space movies, Gravity does more than just creating a setting for the development of the characters and plot. It metaphorically defines the emotional state of Dr. Stone. During the movie, we find out about the death of her daughter and this forces us to reconsider the current state of Dr. Stone. She is a mother who has lost her daughter, and yet she is in outer space. In fact, her whole decision to come to space can be interpreted as a way of avoiding this tragedy-filled past of her. The director tries to portray space as her loneliness, and the fact that she is trying detach herself from the rest of the world. .
The majority of the remaining part of the film is about the emotional journey of Dr. Ryan - her trying to get back to her feet, her trying to take hold of her problems(just like the space). Critiques have made claims like "How can someone like Dr. Stone who gets rattled so easily at tense situations be allowed to be an astronaut." One perspective would be that the character of Dr. Stone is more of a metaphor for the whole humanity. An astronaut can probably be adept at handling such instances but the director is actually trying to show how a normal human experiences and responds to their lost state and feel of terror by using Dr. Stone as an example. .
While the movie sheds a little bit of light on Dr. Stone's past, one thing that the director has chosen to withhold the deeper background story of these two astronauts. Who is Matt? The movie shows him as a calm and cool guy, making quirky and funny remarks, even during time of great perils.
