Crime-control can be defined as any action or method taken to defer crime from happening in a specific area. Officers all around the nation use crime control in order to deter individuals from committing/ recommitting various crimes. It is also used to keep us safer, whether people see it like that or not. It prioritizes the power of the government in order to gain control over the everyday chaos that happens in our world. In the following essay, I will be describing the crime control model and how it can affect society daily.
Crime control can benefit public safety in such a way that it will provide less stress on citizens. For example, when police are given more power and resources to work with it makes for a safer area. If police officers constantly patrol an area, the chances of the crime rate increasing are less likely. Having more undercover and sting operations can limit prostitution, drug and gang activity. Having more routine stings like this can help get more intelligence into other criminal activity as well that our police officers and government officials are blind too. When crime rates decrease this means that officers can use resources for other community related issues. .
Although giving the police officers more power can be helpful, it may also lead to abused actions that are taken by the police. Unnecessary search and seizures can violate a person's individual right, especially if there isn't enough evidence to support the investigation. Its ones thing to keep a community safe, but when officers abuse this power it can prove to be a corrupt law enforcement agency. In my opinion, there needs to be ample evidence that crime/ crimes are being committed for an officer to make an arrest. Falsely convicted people can get caught up easily in this policy if the officer abuses the power given to him or her. The government needs to know when to draw a line between citizen's rights and liberties, and effectively enforcing laws.
