Memory and Response Times

Many biological phenomena influence our daily circadian routines and affect our cognitive processes and behaviors (1 and 3). A research found memory formation and response time to be influenced by the time of day (2). However, what remains unclear is what specific periods is the peak time for memory development and responsiveness (1). Therefore this experiment will address this issue. This research will determine whether picture recognition as well as its rates is more aroused during the morning or afternoon based on The Memory Interference Test (MIT). For this study, the hypothesis states that there will be a difference in the response time and a difference in memory recognition between the morning and afternoon groups. The null hypothesis asserts that there will not be a difference in either response time or memory between the morning and afternoon groups. .
             Materials and Methods.
In this experiment we will be using the online MIT, which is conducted among University of California, Los Angeles students' that are enrolled in LS23L. MIT tests for participant's memory and reaction time while taking into account their demographics variables such as habits and background. All the experimental data for this experiment came from the Picture MIT (PMIT), which is a computerized test that uses visual cues in order to analysis its participant's cognitive abilities.
The PMIT consists of four memory tests and a reaction time test, resulting in five tests. The first three tests are identical. Test 1, 2, and 3 will display 20 pictures on the recognition list that is dispersed among another 30 pictures. The fourth test will have ten pictures from tests 1, 2, and 3 dispersed among 30 pictures. Participants are instructed to click a certain key if they remember it being on the recognition list and another key if the pictures weren't. For the reaction test, participants are ask to only use their index finger to tab on the arrow keys to identify certain shapes.
