These words caused people to think about war and how long society would allow wars to continue; the new generation wanted to fix the problems that caused countries to declare war. Also, it would help people find solutions to some of these problems in their daily lives. In addition, the article Through the Eyes of Tom Joad: Patterns of American Idealism, Bob Dylan, and the Folk Protest Movement, by James Dunlap, talks about Dylan fighting for equality for everyone in the 1960s. Bob Dylan, being a strong proponent of the folk protest movement, was looking for various reason-based reforms, such as socialism, to prevent further class conflict and thus achieve the one from the many (Dunlap 561). In truth, the strong beliefs and feelings in Bob Dylans songs got people in America thinking about the political system at that time and whether it was now time to find a new path to follow to ensure that the nations politics were, in fact, what the people wanted. Another song that illustrates his fight was When The Ship Comes, Dylan described nature celebrating the ultimate victory of its own inherent laws, such as freedom, justice and equality; perhaps alluding to the civil rights movement (Dunlap 563). Dylans goal was to bring awareness to the pitfalls of political power and the fact that politics could create great disillusionment in the lives of the common man. Dylan and other folk singers probably did not convince people of something new, but they strengthened political views that were already present. As the author Gary Browning states in his article Bob Dylan: The politics of influence, Dylans political judgment is sound in allowing for the necessary ambiguity and multiplicity of influence even if his own acknowledge citations of obscure sources detracts from the recognition of his influences and shrouds the specific contributions of others to his own imaginative universe (Browning 237).
