Walking into the room of Powell house from the joining corridor with the Marmion room, a geometrical seven-sided empty room, abundant colors and patterns filled here. It was hard to categorize this room in to one style or culture. The level of details stops people, the longer the observation the more understanding comes out.
The design of the room from the Powell house is a mixture of multi-cultures. The most eye-catching pattern that comes to the view is the painted Chinese-style wallpaper on three sides of the room, where the forth side is filled with elegant geometry of wood. When the ancient Chinese royal golden finished with the simple European white, the solemnity tradition is brighten by the rustic modern. Similar contrast with the coordination between the American western floor and the French decorative ceiling. Looking more closely at the details, the decorations reflect a diverse culture as well. The European style of fireplace and oil portrait painting framed by the simplified edges of Italian architecture. The blooming sculptures hiding behind the white paint bring a continuation from the ceiling and chandelier. Turn around to the opposite side, the curtain of the window has the top of the Chinese pavilion roof shape on the wall paper in the background. On the marble-slab table there is a covered porch bowl, which is just like a large version of a Chinese teacup in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The natural lights enters through the window to brighten the room while reflecting in the gold-framed mirror. All languages of culture become so harmonious together. .
