I think this is a very subtle advertisement and it is a very good example of well-conceived tourism related advertisement that delivers clear and impressive message to its readers. There are two ways to interpret this advertisement. At first glance there is a spinning fishing rod in the center of the scene, the background is coast shore of Auckland, there are white clouds floating in the sky, blue seawater, and mountains at a distance. No doubt, this a perfect place for sea fishing. .
One can also interpret this advertisement from another aspect. The fishing resembles the wing of airplane and the two reels resemble the turbo engines. The overall advertisement is a backward looking of Auckland shore. At the bottom, there is the message: Auckland and the great outdoors, now ten times a week. Now readers realize this is an airline commercial. .
A lot people go to Auckland for their seaside vocation. One of Auckland's nicknames, the "City of Sails", is derived from the popularity of sea related activities in the region. Sealing and fishing are extremely popular in this region.
