Imagine being in a classroom and a phone is constantly vibrating or going off. Annoying right? People argue that having a phone out in a classroom is a huge distraction and should not be allowed. While others argue that cellphones should be allowed and they're not a distraction whatsoever. Publicly ,people could do whatever they desire with their phones but a classroom isn't the time nor place for it. Perhaps in special situations, they should be prohibited. Outside of the classroom, cell phones are perfectly fine but within a classroom, they should not be permitted. .
Rules cannot be guaranteed to be followed by students due to the fact that some teachers allow their students to use their cellular devices so much that students think it's okay to use them whenever they feel like it. Cell phone use in the class varies depending on the teacher, the class and what you're doing in that particular class. Although, cell phone use should be limited to a minimum regardless of the class. Its hard for a student to concentrate or learn anything when he or she is constantly interacting with their phone wondering who sent them a text message or who posted what on social networks. By the end of the class, the student will have no clue what was instructed or taught that day. Teachers may allow students to use cell phones to look up research or use an online dictionary but it can't be promised that a student won't be texting when they are given permission to use their phones. Teachers may also permit students to listen to music which theres nothing wrong with that as long as they're actually working productively. For some students listening to music actually helps them focus on their work. Studies done by the UNCC have shown that music can help you relax your mind which enables you to concentrate better (UNC Charlotte and University City). Cell phones should only be used when the teacher is allowing students to use it for music, researching, or when using it for the dictionary.
