Problems in the Egyptian Educational System

It should teach students how to make their own decisions. Disappointedly he said "Sadly, Egyptian university graduates are capable only of waiting for orders and executing them; no thinking, no arguing, no questioning; and not even dialoguing: a personality that does not and cannot create or think." Using memorizing as a way of teaching is a normal result of the huge number of students in the classroom which hinders the process of interacting and discussing the material. Hence, students` thinking is stuck into memorizing materials for the exams and getting the high grades. Khousam explains that the ways of teaching curriculum in Egypt do not care about how to teach students critical thinking, but they only encourage students to learn for the exams to get the correct answers and the high grades (qtd. in "Teachers` Attitudes"17). Another point is that especially in the primary governmental schools, the educational system ignores students` hobbies completely. Most of the classes are restricted to the academic subjects, such as History, Arabic, Mathematics and Science. Those schools ignore the classes of music, play and painting which pushes students to be unsatisfied with studying at schools.
In addition to the ineffective ways of education in Egypt, schools in Egypt are based upon inappropriate infrastructures, such as the lack of technology and the crowded classrooms. Egyptian schools are not well equipped with the modern technology, such as the developed scientific devices and the modern computers. This lack of technology is the result of the low expenditure devoted to education in Egypt. According to MENA Programme, "Egypt has dedicated 12% of total governmental spending to education over the past four years .when this percentage is broken down to the level of education spending per student-just $129 per student per year on education-it is a comparatively poor level of expenditure.
