Carlson states, "While conflicting animal results have often delayed and hampered advances in the war on cancer, they have never produced a single substantial advance either in the prevention or treatment of cancer"" (86). This clarifies to us that animal experimentation has never helped on finding cures for terminal diseases, like cancer. This quote clearly explains to us that animals are genetically different and they have never served as great subjects for testing, so abuse should stop. The use of animals is unethical/imprecise and the advance of technology can eliminate the use of animals.
People have to learn that animals are able to think and feel pain. Non-human animals cannot report their feelings to humans in the same manner as human communication, but their behavior provides a reasonable indication as to the extent of their pain. Animals are reasonably like humans thus they should be treated fairly. Humans should not be privileged over animals because animals feel pain. When animals have done something wrong they know they are in trouble. Every time an animal is hit it whines and shelters itself. Although, humans suffer every day animals should not be subjects of research abuse because it is ethically incorrect to hurt anyone that feels pain. In the reading, "Animal Liberation " by Singer, he talks about how there is no moral explanation to not take into consideration the suffering of a living being. Singer states "If a being suffers, there can be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration, and, indeed, to count it equally with the like suffering of any other being"" (89). This quote explains to us that animals suffer and they feel the same pain as a human beings, so we should count the suffering of animals equally like any other being. Animals should not serve as experiments in pharmaceutical research when it is ethically wrong to hurt a being.
