Children's literature has been perceived in many perspectives of society throughout American history. Some of which would say that children's literature is the universal truth under the human condition. While others express the pleasurable aspect, being, their own choice in such literature. The specific style, in a sense, is not accepted as appropriate for some children, in the eyes of some. Others, whom view children's literature as appropriate reading for children argue with the knowledge of a culture's notion of what a child is. But we forget how much literature is actually out there, from realistic fiction, to biographies, to poetry. There is generally one main goal of literature, however there are abundant amounts of ways that it is shared to all ages.
The basics of children's literature is an integral part of literary, along with cultural and media studies due to the diverse intellectual disagreements. Every piece of literature is based upon a theme. Themes, such as ideas, which brings us back to the "universal truth ". These themes or in other words, ideas, must apply to reality. However, each theme has to be determined as universally applicable for whoever the reader may be. Realistic fiction is considered a popular genre for children because they can relate to their own lives; therefore it is easier to read. Multiple themes can be found in literature. They only make the piece that much more exhilarating for the reader to use their imagination to decide their own meaning behind it. If there is no theme, there is no universal truth. If there is no universal truth, it is not literature. .
As we know, any piece of literature must obtain a setting and plot in order to inform the reader with more specific details. Who? What? When? Where? Why? The time period in which the setting takes place around is an essential detail because it expresses what the outlook on the social environment is at that day in time.
