This quote was rightly said by Albert Wynn, a former Democratic Member of United States House of Representatives. He strongly supported alternative sources of energy in comparison to fossil fuel. Scientists are trying since many years to develop a technology that has minimal number of flaws. They have tried different methods such as solar energy, nuclear energy and hydroelectric power, but most of these either have high installation cost or environmental problems hindering the progress of the power source. Hydrogen fuel cell is in the news these days, increasing its popularity, because it is cleaner than fossil fuel, it reduces the dependency on fossil fuels because of the abundance of hydrogen and now with new technology installation cost has reduced making it the best substitute for fossil fuel.
Scientists have attempted many different types of energy as fuel but the one with the best results so far is hydrogen, it has the least amount of air pollution. According to Matthew Wald, a reporter at New York Times, no other alternative fuel that are being considered in Clean Air Act even comes close to hydrogen. The only waste product in a hydrogen fuel cell is water which is harmless to environment, whereas fossil fuels have waste products like nitrogen oxide and other hydrocarbons which damages the ozone layer significantly. On the other hand, Christopher Lampton, an author of many non-fiction books, has stated that hydrogen fuel cell has only two by products- water and heat, but the process used to separate hydrogen from hydrocarbons is not as clean. Electrolysis is used to separate hydrogen and oxygen and electricity is generated by this separation. This electricity is generally generated from plants that burn coal, a major cause of air pollution.
