There was the game of telephone, and by the time the secret got back to the original operator it was a different crazy story. Kids wondered on unapproved adventures, called "expeditions where if their parents really knew where they were and what they were up to, there would be severe consequences. .
While parents, Grandparents and baby sitters looked on, children played all day until it was time for dinner. Wander down any residential street today and you'll find an absence of children. Children reside in these neighborhoods, but it seems as if they no longer go outside instead they are indoors almost always plugged in, drumming away on their iPhones, obsessively gaming, playing videos and snap chatting way more than they're actually chatting with their peers. The Huffington post says that 97 percent of adolescents have at least one electronic device in their bedrooms. That's a huge switch even in recent years. With each new technological advancement, its another pull to get the children outside and for longer. .
The invention of the internet dates back to the 60s and cell phones were invented in the 70s. In the year 2014 its hard to find a child without some access to these technologies. Its the parents fault. Parents are turning to technology to help keep their kids quiet and busy, so they arent disturbed with interruptions and have time to focus on making dinner, or the new concept of me time. However, there seems to be no time to just sit outside, play or watch their children grow-up, free play is a concept of the past. The push to go outside no longer exists as it once did. Free play is now replaced with endless television and video games and boring inside activities so parents know their child is safe. With headlines speaking of kidnappings, rapes, child abuse and children being bullied, no wonder parents refuse to let their children outside. Perhaps its not the parents fault after all maybe society is to blame.
