Position Paper on Antigone

In the play "Antigone," Antigone did the right thing in the play unlike Creon. There is no true protagonist or antagonist in the play. Creon and Antigone were the main characters but they were not protagonists. Creon and Antigone have little control over what is happening and fate is mostly in control. Creon and Antigone could have done something that would have changed the ending. If Antigone and Creon were to be put on trial they would probably get serious punishments for their actions. They both broke the law and they will have to pay for their actions. The play starts to get very intense after Antigone buried Polyneices. Creon and Antigone are neither the protagonist or antagonist because in the play there is no true main character. The two characters are both trying to do what they think is right which results in no protagonist or antagonist. In the play there is no true person or thing that creates problems as the antagonist. When Antigone went to bury Polynices it resulted in her getting caught because she broke the law. She wasn't doing anything bad because she was just trying to bury her family member peacefully. Because Antigone broke the law Creon had to punish her but he tried to let her go home and pretend this didn't happen. This results in not having a true protagonist or antagonist. With Creon trying to let Antigone not get in trouble shows how he isn't the "bad guy".".
Antigone and Creon only had a little amount of control for what happens at the end of the book because most of it was fate. The death of Haemon, Creon's son, and Eurydice was fate because when Antigone dies Haemon committed suicide and when Haemon died Eurydice committed suicide. Some of the actions could have been controlled but many things were fate. Another example of fate was when Creon didn't listen to the gods about what he should do. The deaths of Creon's family members were a result of his lack of action.
