It was because of their positive encouragement and the positive values of teamwork, competition, and dedication that I acquired as part of the COD community that I did not drop out of college and persevered all the way through to my current station. Indeed, everyone whom I shared this community with eventually became respectable individuals of society – high ranking military officers, journalists, software developers, or, in my case, scholars. As an individual, I am proud of not only having been part of the COD community of Bangladesh, but also of being one of its founding members.
In 2007, COD 4 became popular all across Bangladesh. It was during this year that the internet began to become popular at a national level. All across Bangladesh, COD communities were being formed. These communities were not exclusive to a single gaming zone. More often than not, COD players would frequent a specific gaming zone and visit other zones in the area, thus interacting with other COD players and expanding their COD community. At the same time, the internet served as a link between COD groups across far distances. In the COD Mania, Game Ranger, and Hunkar forums players from as far as India would meet virtually and share tips and strategies on how to become better players and videos of their freestyle competitions. I became part of the COD community in September 2008. I went to the Metal Gear gaming zone to play FIFA and I saw a teenager by the name of Arif, my mentor, playing a First Person Shooting game. He was playing with the shotgun. His rival, Raju, was playing AK-47. At first I had mixed thoughts. By looking at the graphics, like most of the critics, I thought something along the lines of "that looks ridiculous". However, a second after I thought it looked "kind of cool". For a week I went to the Metal Gear to see Arif and Raju play. Sure, there were other players – Swakhar and Tahmid, two guys who played in Easy mode.
