This is an assessment report of psychosocial, emotional, and physical needs of a selected family. A nurse must assess a family in order to establish their healthcare needs as an initial step in counseling. In this report, structural-functional framework was used to assess the family's needs. The assessment process entailed meeting with an unknown family conveniently and setting approximately two hours for an interview. The interview of the family entailed a reciprocated discussion and note taking that did not interfere with the process. It also aimed at acquiring valuable data about the family and identifying their strengths and weaknesses. In conclusion, the assessment targeted a list of the family's needs and referrals that would meet their unmet needs.

The assessment entailed interviewing a family of a 38 year old Native American man, married to a 34 year old Arabian woman in Ohio State, America. They have been married for the last 17 years and have a 14 year old boy and a 9 year old daughter. It is apparent that this family is leading a great life, with immeasurable happiness. This is in addition to, the perceptible backup structure of the neighbouring relatives. The father is a journalist whereas the mother is a nurse. They both receive a decent pay every end of the month. In this regard, they have a complete medical cover for the entire family along with sufficient basic needs. Assessment of this family was by the structural-functional framework. This entails institutions such as the family, polity, economy, religion and education. .

Their paternal father succumbed to lung cancer, whereas the paternal mother succumbed to cardiopulmonary attack. Their maternal parents are at the age of 70, and they are struggling with diabetes. It is apparent that this family has a family doctor who manages majority of their medical problems.
