In terms of food supply, many are against the idea of genetically creating animals for "wholesale slaughter" for human consumption. Many believe that this act will impede on issues such as "population" and the "social system of check and balances" found in our society. The social consequences with the medical section of genetic engineering are of sever concern. Many questions are raised such as "who will have access to these technologies and how scarce resources be allocated?" (Linda Gleen). The social consequences within our society of are high concern since the products produced through this science will most likely be available to people in power or by the wealthy. The last area of concern is the lack of knowledge in terms of the long-term effects of genetic engineering. Our inability to identify the outcome of this science could possibly result as we continue to use this science.
