Michael Zaleski, in reference to the voter turnout says, "Ah, well, Muriel Parkinson earned 3,600 votes last time around, so I'd say our support has dropped significantly since you signed up Mr. McLintock"" (99). Given that, he is a prime example of the attitude the characters in this novel show towards the Canadian political system. The theme of cynicism towards politics is consistent throughout the novel and is shown to be an essential theme as demonstrated by the attitudes of Daniel Addison, Angus MccLintock, and Michael Zaleski.
Furthermore, another theme in this book is the loss of personal integrity, as demonstrated by the sex scandal of Eric Cameron, the dissonance Angus creates in the Liberal caucus, and Bradley Stanton's accusations towards Daniel. To begin with, Eric Cameron ends up in a sex scandal with his chief of staff Petra Borschart. A news report that describes the situation shows the depth of the trouble he has caused for himself.
