Jeff Sessions was born in Hybart, Alabama, on December 24, 1946, the son of a country store owner. As a child he attended Camden elementary school. As a young adult in 1969 he obtained a bachelors degree of art at Huntingdon Collage. In 1973 he furthered his education at the University of Alabama when he earned he Juris Doctorate degree. Also in 1973 he joined the United States Army and soon became an officer reaching the rank of Captain. Soon after he began his career as a lawyer in Montgomery. Eventually Sessions became the assistant United States attorney for the southern district of Alabama, and in 1981 he took over as United States attorney for that district until 1995. After a brief hiatus Sessions returned in 1997 to serve as Senator.
Today Senator Jeff Sessions Republican Al. is still serving in the U.S. Senate and has enjoyed great success. He currently serves on four major committees: Armed Services, Budget, Judiciary, and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. He also serves on the Joint Economic Committee, the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, and he is a member of the National Council on the Arts. His service has gained him recognition and numerous awards including: the Guardian of Small Business Award, the Teddy Roosevelt Environmental Award, the Alabama Farmers Federation's Service to Agriculture Award, and the Watchdog of the Treasury Award. Sessions also is known for the Violent & Repeat Juvenile Offenders Act (May of 1999). This legislation is aimed at strengthening our nation's juvenile justice systems as they face more and more serious juvenile crime. .
Even though Sessions gets the credit for the work he has done in the senate he openly admits that he could not have made it without support from his wife Mary Blackshear Sessions, their three children Mary Abigail, Ruth Walk, and Sam, and his Christian faith.
