To be a Heisman candidate, you must show athletic skill, leadership, and sportsmanship. Cam Newton, a former Auburn football player, is an excellent example of a Heisman winner. He won the trophy in 2010; he is the third Auburn player to win the trophy along with Pat Sullivan and Bo Jackson. He is known to be a great team leader. He was there to support his team when things seemed like they were destined to fail. He led the team in pep talks and was always full of energy on the sidelines. When the team was down he made sure they stayed positive. His ability to keep his focus and poise was incredible. Cam Newton's skill was shown in every game he played. He is mostly known for his ability to scramble outside the pocket and make key plays. His ability to run the ball and his arm strength are what make him a dual threat quarterback. This skillset so shown in the 2010 Iron Bowl when Cam Newton led his team from a 24 point deficit to win the game. The play that really showed his ability was at the start of the fourth quarter. It was 3rd down with 4 yards to go on the 3 yard line. Down by 6 points, Cam shakes off a tackle and looks in the corner of the endzone to find Lutzenkirchen. This play showed the poise and confidence that Cam has in high pressure situations. .
Another example would be in the 2010 BCS National Championship game. Newton helped his team win the national title, their first in 53 years. The other great thing about a great Heisman winner is his sportsmanship. You never see them acting like they are better than anyone, Even though they have been deemed the greatest player in the country. Cam Newton was always very humble when he won a game, made sure he always shook the other team's hand. He was also very responsible; he knows when he has messed up. He always does his signature move when he has messed up or made a fatal mistake. He sits on the bench and puts a towel over his head and thinks.
