Educating the Exceptional Learner

It also gives a person more time to plan for transitional periods based on how the child reacts to change. Some assessments can be things such as observing the child playing with toys. With some Autistic children they will sort things by color, size, or even line them up and stack them as straight as possible. Some examples of tests used for dyslexia would be like expressive one-word picture vocabulary tests or receptive one word picture vocabulary tests. For ADHD they have tests like the Connors Rating scale and Barklay ADD Rating scales. There are so many different tests for each disability and it provides a wide spectrum to focus on when trying to identify a disability in a child (Types of Tests, 2014).
With so much information available to people via the internet, it is really easy to find not only information about disorders but also how to find help for those disorders. One website that certainly provides a lot of information about getting help for people with disabilities would be: https://www.disability.gov/. Some of the subjects that you can find information on would be: caregivers, teachers and guidance counselors, as well as many other subjects ("Disabilities.gov," 2014). One specific program that is a must when it comes to a child with special needs is an IEP or an Individualized Education Program. What an IEP does is it outlines the child's strengths as well as how his or her disability affects the ability to learn in school (Transition Services, 2013). The IEP also outlines the child's transition services for when they reach a certain age to help them transition from school to adult life as well as finding the goals the child wishes to accomplish as he or she grows older. The transition services will vary from child to child depending on what they struggle with. It usually involves introducing those students to outside environments where they would encounter the thing they struggle with but they will also have supervision during this exposure.
