It is very clear that all the way in the book, the animals did everything they could to contribute into the forming of their ideal society. The ideal society to the animals was an everyday life where all animals were equal, none were hungry or to kill each other, the stronger protected the weaker and that they were free from the hands and whips of man. They were really just necessary living standards, without any absurd dreams. Even though it seemed like a really simple ideal society, it still remained as a fantasy that played as the role of their only hope or belief to cling onto that kept them going through labour and hunger during the hard days later, after the rebellion against Mr. Jones, the banishment of Snowball and the dictatorship of Napoleon which led all pigs to a much more superior role compared to the other animals. Even though it was frequently mentioned by Squealer's propaganda that Napoleon was their leader who keeps them away from dangers like Mr. Jones, but the actual truth was that Napoleon was the real obstacle to them reaching their ideal society with freedom.
Old Major was the one who taught the animals about the possibility of an ideal society and provoked the first rebellion, where Mr. Jones was chased out of Manor farm, then Snowball and Napoleon stepped up as leaders, but they rivalled each other at the same time, under Snowball and Napoleon's guidance, the farm seemed to be slowly progressing towards their ideal society, with the plan of a windmill which provides them electricity. After some time waited for Napoleon's litter of puppies to grow into a fierce pack of dogs, Napoleon immediately chased out Snowball by force and had him assassinated by one of the dogs. Then the leadership was taken over by Napoleon then harsh treatment, shortage of food and long hours of labour for the completion of the windmill were persuaded upon the animals. .
Napoleon becomes more and more corrupted with power and his pack of dogs, force and violence were much more frequently used on the farm.
