If someone was to ask about a great civil rights leader who, would first come to mind? For most people it would be Martin Luther King. He made many sacrifices for a greater good for all people. He had strong values and a great personality that made people of all races respect him. Martin Luther King was a very intelligent man with a life full of obstacles as well as great accomplishments.
Dr. King was a very intelligent with many years of schooling. After graduating from High School at the age of 15 he attended Morehouse College, and later enters Boston University. Then four years later he graduated with a doctorate of philosophy in systematic theology. All of his schooling helped him write wonderful and motivating speeches.
Dr. King had many accomplishments in his life. With his help the Supreme Court rules that bus segregation is illegal. After that King spoke to a crowd of 15,000 in Washington D.C. a year later he went on a speaking tour and met with President Eisenhower to discuss maters affecting black Americans. In 1960 he lead lunch counter sit-ins and at one he was arrested. Dr. King made many speeches including his famous I Have A Dream speech in 1963 and his I've Been To The Mountaintop speech in 1968. A great recognition of his work was being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 35 the youngest person to get the award. He gave a lot of himself to be the voice of people in need.
A hardship of giving so much of himself, Martin Luther King was arrested many times and held in jail were he was not treated very well at all. And nearly killed when stabbed on a speaking tour. In 1964 Black Muslims stoned him. On April 4, 1964 Dr. King was fatally shot in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. King's life was full of hard times yet he still remained focused and hopeful. The work of Marin Luther King, Jr. has had a very strong and very great affect on the way we live today. .
