Why Immigrant Reformation is not Necessary


The opposing view believes that "Many immigrants from various nations seem unwilling to learn the English language, and their own reasons. Some move to ethnic pockets, such as New York City's Chinatown or Miami's Little Havana, where Chinese and Spanish respectively are sometimes more common than English" (Redemske 1 ). .
             It is continually emphasized that immigrants are not encouraged to learn English and this cause language barrier between the communities as far as blending their culture with ours. Immigrants have an extremely difficult time trying to acclimate to new cultural and social norms, which pushes them to settle within ethnic communities. "At present rates, mass immigration reinforces ethnic subcultures, reducing the incentives of newcomers to learn English; and extends the life of linguistic ghettos that might otherwise be melded into the great American mainstream" (Buchanan 1). Although it may be helpful for immigrants to be able to have their own language translated, but it also encourages them to not learn the English language. The law can be authorize e that immigrants show that they understand a good amount of English before entering the United States. .
             It seems that many immigrants are refusing to learn English because they have easy access to translated materials, such as books, voting registrations, and etc. It can be seen that immigrants are causing the United States to be more accommodating by providing them with materials in their native language. It is also crucial for immigrants to show that they are eager to enter the United States through their willingness to learn the American language and culture. "All foreign nationals entering the United States for an extended period of time should be required to demonstrate a fair ability to speak and understand English, or at least a willingness to improve whatever minimal skills they may have by enrolling in an English-as-a-Second-Language class" (Schweier 1).
