ObamaCare - A Step in the Right Direction

The rising need for care produced a rise in costs for insurance that most Americans were unable to keep up with. Although there are always some exception, most Americans fall into one of two categories: quality coverage at a higher cost, often employer sponsored plans, or little to no coverage because of a lack of ability to pay.
The Patient Protection and Affordability Act, also known as ObamaCare, is a law recently passed that outlines the regulations of health care coverage. Under this policy everyone is required to have some form of coverage whether private pay or a government funded policy. The plan provides an expansion of the Medicaid program and outlines the requirements of employers to provide coverage. Through this reform it is the hope that everyone will have access to quality health care. .
According to obamacarefacts.com, the legislation includes a variety of guideline and regulations including the elimination of insurance providers to discriminate ability because of, among other circumstances, past illness and gender. One of the main topics addressed is the rising cost of healthcare. According to Steve Riczo, president of Riczo & Co. Healthcare management, "Americans spend 2.5 trillion dollars annually on healthcare," which makes up for a substantial amount of the national debt. It is the hope that through the implementation of Obama care the costs will be significantly lowered and therefore the national debt will decrease as well. Another aspect of the policy is to expand the government sponsored programs that already exist such as Medicaid. This is done through making more people eligible by changing the requirements and also the amount a provider receives in reimbursement which will increase the number of providers who accept Medicaid patient (obamacarefacts.com). .
As with everything in life, ObamaCare has pros and cons. The most obvious benefit is that everyone will have access to healthcare however, this means that those who currently have coverage may be required to get new plans because the ones they have do not meet the requirements.
