Flight of the Intrusive Drones


They were little flying machines that didn't carry a pilot. Since they didn't have a pilot they were very small and they flew right through the Iraqi radar unseen. These Drones used their high power cameras and infrared laser to target the radar stations. Then the attack helicopters used the infrared laser as a guide to land their missile right on target. The United States military had completely destroyed the Iraqi air defense system with no casualties on the United States side (Acheson). This is an example of drones being used to help the United States stop terrorists. Drones have many positive uses and are undoubtedly an asset to the United States. They can help save lives and they can put these drones in a situation instead of a human being and keep that person out of danger's way. .
             Having transformed war, drones are getting ready to transform peace. The government has been discussing how to integrate drones into the lives of Americans. Lev Grossman, a reporter for the prestigious time magazine, wrote "A year ago Obama ordered the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expedite the process of integrating "unmanned aerial vehicles" into civilian airspace. " (Grossman) Police departments will use them to study crime scenes. Farmers will use them to watch their fields. Builders will use them to survey construction sites. Hollywood will use them to make movies. Hobbyists will use them just because they feel like it says Daisy Carrington a drone enthusiast pushing for the use of them in the United States (Carrington). There are countless uses for this technology that will help American citizens. But there are also many other uses that can harm citizens too. .
             A huge concern about drones that they can spy on people. These drones have a very sensitive and powerful camera mounted in them. It can see anything on the ground clearly three miles away. This camera also has night vision and thermal vision, which means that it can see at night and during storms.
