A Refelction of King Philip's War

My parents had a similar experience when they came from India and came to the United States. My parents didn't know the language very well. This was a major obstacle. They have often told me about how scary and difficult was at first. They came to the United States for a better life just like the Pilgrims did.
The peaceful relationship between the Pilgrims and Native Americans started when Samoset made the first contact with the Pilgrims. His first words were "Welcome Englishmen!"" Samoset amazed the Pilgrims. They have not seen a Native American before. The Pilgrims were probably surprised that Samoset was not barbaric or animalistic like they expected the Natives Americans to be. They were very ignorant of Native American culture. When my parents first came to the United States many people didn't know much about our culture. What probably surprised and amazed the Pilgrims the most was that Samoset had some knowledge of English culture. They described him as an "a tall straight man."" The Pilgrims were fully clothed from neck to toe, so when the Native American came "stark naked " it startled and stunned them. The Pilgrims offered Samoset food. .
The Pilgrims managed to survive the first year with the help of a Native American tribe called the Pokanokets. The Pokanokets could have attacked the Pilgrims, but they became alliances instead. They had a peaceful relationship in the beginning because the Pilgrims needed the Pokanokets to survive. The Pilgrims taught them how to plant corn and how to hunt. The Pokanokets were very generous. When my parents immigrated to the United States, they received a lot of help from a few family members that were already in the U.S. My parents were taught how to speak English, how to drive, and how to handle their money. Without the support of their family my parents would have had a harder time adjusting to their new home. My family will never forget the help they received from friends and family.
